Recently a number of our top READON fund raisers accepted an invitation from N.I. Cancer Fund for Children to visit Daisy Lodge, Newcastle – a purpose-built therapeutic short break centre. The charity wanted to say a big ‘Thank You’ for the support they have received from SHS over the year (a total of £2196.52 was raised). It was an opportunity to see how the money, raised by the students, has helped the charity.
The day began with a tour of Daisy Lodge and Narnia, followed by an activity workshop and lunch. The students saw ‘first hand’ how Daisy Lodge can provide a sanctuary for its many visitors. They learned all about the Young Shoulders Programme and had numerous question and answer opportunities.
All in all they learned how invaluable the Cancer Fund for Children’s services are in N.I.
A great day was had by all (teachers included) and it was topped off by delicious ice creams!
