Summary :
|
|
At this Key Stage Geography examines issues linked with the physical, human and environmental branches of the subject. Topics include weather and climate, natural hazards, natural environments & ecosystems, pollution, habitat destruction, urban & rural settlement, population, industry, development and the sustainable use of resources. There is a strong emphasis on the development and use of ICT in the classroom to complete substantial coursework tasks and to present information to peers. The ability to give and receive constructive feedback is constantly practised and actively encouraged. With the kind permission of the National Trust all Year 9 and 10 students take part in substantial fieldwork activities based at Murlough Nature Reserve where primary data linked with coastal processes and with plant succession and soil formation are gathered and processed during class time as part of a coursework assignment. Opportunities for the gathering and handling of primary and secondary data are also built into the scheme of work for Year 8.
