Welcome Address from the Principal

On behalf of my staff and students I would like to welcome you to the official website of the Sacred Heart Grammar School, Newry. Much effort has gone into making this website interesting, informative and, indeed, resourceful and we hope that, not only will you enjoy browsing through the various sections of our website, but also that you get a sense of how we promote intellectual endeavour and, indeed, curiosity within the confines of our school.

At Sacred Heart we aim, by exposure to a range of intellectual challenges, to teach our students that endeavour should not be limited to the conventional image of the teacher - student exchange of questions and answers in the formal environment of the classroom. Our students are required to take learning further and to inspire a permanent curiosity, a yearning for improvement. By doing so, we are ensuring that they acquire transferable skills which can be applied elsewhere in their lives. While we expect our students to gain excellent qualifications, we realise that the ability to pass examinations alone is inadequate for the demands of the society into which our students will venture. Through a structured and appropriate programme of intellectual, spiritual, cultural and physical activity, our students find their own talents and acquire the self-esteem and interpersonal skills required for their adult lives.
